Wagstaffs first started selling footwear in 1888 from a shop in Holmfirth run by brothers John and Ben. They made clogs and boots for mill workers and sold shoes to the general population.

Over the next 130 years the business has remained in the same family,  adapting to follow the changes in the economy, population and society. Ben's son Reg joined the business in the 1920's and his son Edward joined in the late 1940's. The current owner is Simon, one of Edwards' sons, who joined in 1987.

We now operate from two branches, Rieker@Wagstaffs which as the name suggests concentrates on the Rieker brand and Wagstaff Shoes in Meltham which specialises in adults wide fitting footwear.

We have a great team in both branches and are passionate about footwear and customer service. We love to talk about shoes, offering advice to customers but also allow you time to browse the displays without interruption. The staff in the Meltham shop spend more time on the fitting stool as many of our wide fit customers have specific issues with their feet and need more help. It's a great feeling to use our knowledge and fitting skills to convert a reluctant shoe shopper into a smiling buyer!

As we regularly get customers from more than an hours drive away we have an option to make appointment before you come. We also offer a home visit service for those customers who find it difficult to come to the shop.

The website launch in 2025 marks an exciting new chapter for Wagstaffs and we look forward to growing the site and helping a new generation of shoppers become smiling customers!
